The Faculty Senate Committee on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues is working to implement the recommendations made in its comprehensive report, submitted in May 1997. Those recommendations would (1) establish a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies program; (2) expand offerings of courses with LGBT content; (3) improve support services for LGBT students; (4) enhance LGBT scholarship and service projects; (5) promote greater equity for LGBT faculty and staff; and (6) secure for the domestic partners of LGBT students, faculty and staff benefits equivalent in every way to those provided for spouses.
Women’s Studies Program – Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Certificate

First offered in Fall 2003, this 15-credit, interdisciplinary, undergraduate academic certificate program requires students to complete a three-credit introduction to LGBT issues course, three three-credit electives chosen from a growing list of courses with significant LGBT content, and a three-credit capstone seminar or a directed study that includes a major research paper. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Alumni Council provides a forum that facilitates dialogue and relationships between the university and its gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender alumni. The Council supports and encourages a positive social and academic environment throughout the university community for its gay/lesbian/bisexual students, faculty and staff.
