students at UW-Madison are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with some of
the world's leading researchers to push the frontiers of knowledge. The options range
from assisting with on-going research to designing and directing your own project.

Community
Scholars Program
Community Scholars is a one-year academic program for undergraduates that combines
opportunities for community service, experiential learning, and service.
Hilldale
Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowships
Undergraduates who have at least junior standing at the time of application may apply
for funding to do research in collaboration with a UWMadison faculty member
or research/instructional academic staff member.
Holstrom
Environmental Scholarships
Undergraduates who have at least junior standing at the time of application may apply
for funding to do research in collaboration with a UWMadison faculty member
or research/instructional academic staff member that focuses on environmental issues.
Medical
Scholars Program
Available to first-year undergraduates
Open to high school seniors with a broad secondary education, a high aptitude for
science and a strong desire to pursue a medical career, Medical Scholars pursue an
interesting undergraduate program that includes participation in research.
Ronald E. McNair Scholars
Program
The goal of this program is to increase the number of students in doctoral degree
programs who are low-income and first generation undergraduates or students who come
from groups underrepresented in graduate education.

Scholars
Available to first-year undergraduates
The Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URS) is dedicated to helping first- and
second-year undergraduates get hands-on experience in research or other creative endeavors
by working with UW faculty and research staff.
Wisconsin Idea
Undergraduate Fellowship
Undergraduates with at least sophomore standing propose a project that focuses on
addressing a need identified by the community. Project areas include (but are not
limited to) community development, health related issues, economic development, the
arts, education, environmental issues, criminal justice, hunger and poverty alleviation,
etc.
School and College Honors Programs
Available to first-year undergraduates
Many of the college-based honors programs have research components, such as the Letters
and Science Summer Sophomore Apprenticeship Research Grant and the School
of Education Senior Honors Research Fellowship.
And
If you are involved in research, or just interested, dont forget
to participate in the Annual Undergraduate
Symposium.
If you are in the sciences, you might also consider participating in the
Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference of Sigma Xi, the
Scientific Research Society. This annual meeting for undergraduate
researchers offers the opportunity for you to present your work, learn
about other students' research, and attend workshops to help you with
your professional development as a scientist. The 2007 annual meeting
will be held November 2–3 in Orlando, Florida. The deadline
