The Wiscontrepreneur Scholarship

Application deadline: October 1, 2008

Purpose: Sponsored by the Chancellor’s Office and the Office of Corporate Relations, these scholarships are part of the Wiscontrepreneur initiative, which fosters campus entrepreneurial thinking and promotes the creation of new business entities and socially beneficial organizations.

Definition of Entrepreneurship: For the purposes of this scholarship, entrepreneurship is defined as the process of leveraging ideas or resources in such a way as to create value. In this definition, value created through entrepreneurial endeavor may take the form of business or economic value but may also include social, artistic or scientific/technological value.

Award: Up to ten scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded. The scholarship may be put toward the cost of tuition and associated fees, books, and room and board for undergraduate study at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Eligibility:

  • Enrolled undergraduate in good academic standing (students from all colleges and majors are invited to apply)
  • Sophomore status at the time of application
  • Preference given to applicants with demonstrated financial need

Selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to entrepreneurship, which may include entrepreneurial endeavors such as:
    • Starting a new business or venture
    • Revitalizing an existing organization to create new value
    • Participating in, and making valuable contributions to, student organizations such as Students In Free Enterprise, the UW Entrepreneurship Association, Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, or others
    • Participating in activities that foster entrepreneurial thinking such as the Burrill Business Plan Competition, the Tong or Schoofs Competition, the Wiscontrepreneur 100 Hour Challenge, or others
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial creativity, spirit and initiative

Application Process and conditions of award: A selection committee comprised of UW–Madison faculty and staff will review applications. Results will be announced in November of 2008. The award recipients’ names and credentials may be used in University materials.

  • UW transcript (may submit a copy of your student record available through MyUW)
