Purpose: Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program awards approximately 40 scholarships to seniors or recent graduates planning to attend graduate school for the first time.
Award: The award covers a portion of educational expenses, including tuition, living expenses, required fees, and books for the graduate degree chosen—up to $50,000/year, renewable for six years. Scholars may use the award to attend any accredited graduate school in the U.S. or abroad.
Eligibility
- Senior or recent graduate (no more than 5 years before May of application year)
- Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale
- Plan to begin a full-time accredited graduate degree program the fall after submitting application

- Academic ability and achievement
- Unmet financial need
- Will to succeed
- Leadership and public service
- Critical-thinking ability
- Appreciation for, or participation in, the arts and humanities
Application Process: Applicants must submit a completed application to the UW–Madison selection committee, which may nominate up to two candidates annually (see application checklist). The application, which is available on the Jack Kent Cooke website, includes an online application form, transcripts, two letters of recommendation, financial records from the applicant and applicant’s parents, and a portfolio if applying in the arts. Additionally, applicants must submit letters of acceptance and financial aid offers from the graduate institutions to which they have applied.
