The Bascom Hill Society Scholarship

Application deadline: late March, 2010

Purpose: The Bascom Hill Society, the major donor honor organization of the University of Wisconsin Foundation, offers a full scholarship to one junior or senior student who has a solid academic record, has demonstrated leadership capability and has made an outstanding volunteer contribution to the University of Wisconsin and/or his or her community.

Award: The scholarship covers full tuition (in- or out-of-state), fees, books, and room and board for one year of undergraduate study at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. One scholarship is awarded per year.

Eligibility

  • GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Sophomore or junior status at the time of application
  • Unmet financial need* of at least $1,000 for Wisconsin or Minnesota residents, or at least $5,000 for out-of-state residents

* To determine your eligibility, you must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Contact the Office of Student Financial Services

Selection Criteria: A selection committee will review all proposals.

  • Outstanding record of campus or community service
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity
  • Academic ability and achievement

Application Process and conditions of award: A selection committee comprised of representatives from the UW Foundation and UW–Madison faculty and staff will review applications. Results will be announced in May 2008.  The scholarship recipient is expected to attend the Bascom Hill Society Fall Event in October 2008, and the award recipient’s name and credentials may be used in UW Foundation and University materials.

Application: Please submit one copy of the following materials (available January 2010):

  • Application form (available January 2010; please download and complete using a computer)
  • Transcript from each university attended. The UW–Madison transcript may be unofficial. A “campus only” transcript is available free of cost at the Registrar’s office, or you may submit a copy of your student record available through MyUW. Transcripts from universities other than UW–Madison must be official.
  • Two letters of recommendation (please download recommendation forms–available January 2010–and give them to your recommenders). One letter must be from a University faculty or staff member or a community leader that has first-hand knowledge of your volunteer and leadership activities. Recommenders should submit their letters directly to the Undergraduate Academic Awards Office.
  • Current Financial Aid Award Summary, print out from MyUW
