New Directions: The Reaccreditation Project Archive: Technical Notes |
The report that the University of Wisconsin-Madison submitted to the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NCA-CIHE) was made up of two major components, one of which was intended to satisfy the requirements for accreditation, and the other of which included recommendations regarding the future of the university.
The Self Study is available only in portable document format (.pdf), which can be read using the Adobe Acrobat Reader©. (This program may be downloaded from the Adobe site for free.) This "web-publication" of the Self Study matches the January 1999 edition. Pages printed from this version look like the printed edition, allowing readers to print only those sections of the study which interest them.
Technical Notes:
Links have been created between the Table of Contents page and the remainder of the document; within Parts I and II of the document, bookmarks have been set to allow readers to navigate using Adobe Acrobat Reader's© "Bookmarks and Page" button that appears near the top left of the Actobat toolbar. Clicking on this button opens two frames in the browser window. The bookmarks appear on the left and the document appears on the right. Clicking on the arrows to the left of the bookmarks opens a list of bookmarked subsections.
The aforementioned bookmarks correspond to the chapter and section headings in the printed document. Readers may find it useful to print the Table of Contents pages and refer to these when seeking specific sections.
Links to other documents and websites have been created as needed. Since many of these links will take visitors out of the New Directions website, we cannot be responsible for the content of those outside pages, and although they were tested prior to this posting, some may have changed since then. Following these links will cause readers to "lose" their place in the document should they choose to return by using their browsers' "back" buttons; before clicking on an external link, please make a note of the section and page to which you would like to return.
Generally, web-based search features do not search for text in portable document format files. To find a particular word or phrase in the Self-Study, you must use the Adobe Acrobat Reader © "File/Find" feature. For assistance in using this feature, please refer to the resources provided by Adobe.
