Non-resident Tuition Remission for Domestic Partners and Their Dependents

Fall, 2004

Policy Statement

An individual who moves to Wisconsin as a result of his/her domestic partner's full-time employment at the UW-Madison, or an individual who is a dependent of someone who moved to Wisconsin as a result of his/her domestic partner's full-time employment at the UW-Madison, may be eligible for up to a one-year remission of non-resident tuition. After one year of residence within the state of Wisconsin and after it is determined that the individual did not move here for educational purposes, the individual would be eligible to apply for in-state tuition under Wisconsin Statute 36.27(2).

Criteria and process to determine eligibility

  1. Present evidence that the partner’s offer of full-time employment with UW-Madison was accepted prior to relocation and prior to the individual’s filing an application for admission to UW-Madison.
  2. Demonstrate that the partner has moved to Wisconsin for employment with UW-Madison and remains, or can be expected to remain, continuously employed on a full-time basis for a minimum of 1 year (or 2 semesters).
  3. Demonstrate evidence of dependency, if applicable.
  4. Demonstrate that the partnership meets the criteria to determine domestic partner status as established by the UW-Madison. See: http://www.provost.wisc.edu/dppolicy.html
  5. Complete the Employment Verification form and the Declaration of Domestic Partnership form and submit both forms (and any supporting documentation) to the Office of the Registrar, Residence for Tuition, 21 N Park St Suite 7200S, Madison, WI 53715.
