About the Vice Provost
Joanne E. Berg (B.S. University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Executive M.B.A., University of Wisconsin-Madison) serves as the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. As Vice Provost she is responsible for the units that make up the Division of Enrollment Management including the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, Office of the Registrar, Office of Student Financial Aid and the office responsible for the Integrated Student Information System (ISIS). She is an avid proponent of strategic planning and promotes a work environment that informs and empowers decision makers who can positively impact student success.
Berg began her work at the University in 1987 with the Graduate School where she served as Assistant and then Associate Dean for graduate admissions and academic services. Berg served as University Registrar from 2002-2004 and until 2010 served as both Registrar and Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. She served as Interim Chief Information Officer at UW-Madison in 2010-11. Prior to coming to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Berg was the Director of Admissions at the University of Puget Sound School of Law in Tacoma, Washington (now Seattle University).
Berg currently serves as co-chair for the UW-Madison Identity Management Leadership Group; co-sponsors a campus-wide student services group called Crossroads with the Dean of Students; and serves as a point person for the campus-wide initiative to raise funds and allocate dollars to expand access to low-income students. Berg recently served as consultant to Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan to help build the University’s enrollment management infrastructure and consults with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on the same topic. She is a point person for UW-Madison’s Educational Innovation initiative and is chair of The Undergraduate Recruitment Task Force which is a collaborative educational innovation initiative that works toward a campus culture of shared responsibility for recruiting and enrolling students who are productive world citizens.
